The Annual Paterson
Student Poetry Contest

One of our primary goals is to enable students to release their own creativity. We aim to give them that opportunity through the Paterson Student Poetry Contest.

Paterson students grades 1 – 12 submit poems which are judged by a professional poet. The contest culminates in a published anthology of the winning poems, a live reading, and the awarding of prizes and certificates.

Paterson students enter the contest annually

How to enter:

Students who would like to enter the contest must submit their poems to their teachers.  Teachers must then send a file with each student submission to [email protected] Winners will be notified via mail with their awards and the ceremony to follow.

In light of the pandemic, the 2020 awards ceremony took place virtually. Despite only a handful of winners being able to attend online, we felt it was crucial to give the young people of Paterson a platform to speak their poetry into the world.
