The Annual Paterson Student Poetry Contest

One of our primary goals is to challenge students to write beyond their limitations. Poetry can seem intimidating, but we strive to make it accessible through the Paterson Student Poetry Contest. 

Paterson students grades one through 12 submit poems which are judged by professional poets. The contest culminates in a published anthology of the winning poems, a live reading, and the awarding of prizes and certificates.

The 2021 Paterson Student Poetry Contest has closed and judges have made their selections. For a complete list of winners, see the post below. Guidelines for the 2022 contest will be available in the late summer.

Folk arts festival announcement

In light of the pandemic, the 2020 awards ceremony took place virtually. Despite only a handful of winners being able to attend online, we felt it was crucial to give the young people of Paterson a platform to speak their poetry into the world.
